The Unreal Space Manifesto is SURL's founding text, the document that set the terms for everything the lab does after it. Most design writing takes real-world space as a given and asks how to work within it. This manifesto interrogates that given. Space, in its account, is the product of politics and imagination working on each other in a loop, which is why it can feel so hard to picture anything else.
The manifesto sets out a different orientation for design practice: treat memory, projection, and imagination as legitimate materials to build with. That shift becomes the lab's operating method, tested later through projects that greenscreen, hollow out, and rescript institutional space directly.
